Facts & Photos

Department Personnel

The police department consists of 60 full-time sworn officers, 10 Community Service Officers, 2 Parking Enforcement Officers, 1 Property & Evidence Technician, and 1 Records Supervisor; along with 2 full-time clerical staff, 4 part-time Police Info Techs, 3 part-time Records Techs, and 1 part-time Social Worker.

Specialized training is provided to sworn officers in such areas as Crime Scene Evidence Technician, Field Training & Juvenile Officer, Major Crash Unit and Criminal Investigator. Other opportunities in the department are School Resource Officer, Traffic and Bike Patrol Officer, Honor Guard, Crime Prevention/Community Relations, Accreditation and Emergency Services Team.

Honor Guard

The department Honor Guard, which was formed in 2002, has continued to perform at a high level. In 2007, the Honor Guard performed in eight events including several parades, Police Memorial Day ceremonies, National Night Out, and the Maine South High School Homecoming.

The Honor Guard is comprised of one supervisor and six patrol officers. U.S. Marine Corps drill standards for close order drill and ceremonies are maintained and practiced during four to six in-house training sessions a year.

Plans for 2008 include an increase to ten or twelve appearances for the Honor Guard. Additional training sessions throughout the year are being considered to enhance the professional performance of the Honor Guard. As always, the Honor Guard will continue to schedule as many appearances as can be reasonably scheduled and will represent the department positively and professionally to public audiences. The Honor Guard will also be acquiring new uniforms in 2008. The new uniforms will comprise a Mandarin collared dress coat and trousers with a seam stripe for all Honor Guard members.  The current uniform, which includes a dress white shirt, and neck scarf, with regular styled uniform trousers will still be retained for certain ceremonial purposes as well. The planned increase in appearances, combined with the new uniforms will ensure that the Honor Guard continues to represent the Park Ridge Police Department in the highest professional manner throughout 2008 and into the future as well.
