What are my options when I receive a traffic ticket?

1. If the officer who issues the ticket also gives you a Court Diversion Envelope, you have three options. You may plead guilty and pay the citation, either by mail or in person at the courthouse. You may plead guilty and attend traffic safety school, if eligible (it's explained on the envelope). If you pass the class, the conviction will be considered a supervision and not be entered on your driving record at the Secretary of State's Office. If you fail the class or do not attend the class, then a conviction will be entered upon your record. You may also mail the envelope in to request a court date to contest the ticket.
2. If the officer who issues the ticket assigns a court date and the MUST APPEAR box is also checked, then you must appear on the date and time assigned to you. The officer has no discretion on these violations as this is mandated by law.
3. If the officer who issues the ticket assigns a court date and the MUST APPEAR box is NOT checked, then you may either appear on the date assigned or pay the ticket at the courthouse prior to the assigned court date.

How do I obtain a copy of a police report?

The records department is open Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  You will need to submit a Freedom of Information Act Request Click here for a PDF copy of the Request Form for the Police Department.  You can return the completed form in person, by mail or by fax at 847-318-5308.  If sent by mail, the request should be sent to:  Freedom of Information Officer, Park Ridge Police Department, 200 S. How does the zoned parking in Uptown work?

The Uptown area is divided into two zones.
Zone 1: areas north of the tracks; both sides of Prospect Ave from Touhy to Summit; both sides of Summit from Prospect to the first alley east of Prospect; the south side of Northwest Hwy from Prospect to Euclid, and; all unreserved 2-hour parking spaces in the Central (library) lot.
Zone 2: areas south of the tracks; both sides of Main St from Prospect to Prairie; both sides of Prairie from Main St to the first alley south of Main; both sides of Fairview from Main to Garden; both sides of Prospect from Main to Garden, and; the north side of Garden from Prospect to a point 95 feet northwest of Prospect.
A vehicle cannot be parked in any single parking zone for more than 2 hours from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday - Saturday. That means a vehicle cannot move from one parking space to another within that parking zone during those times. This includes if you are parked in the morning, leave, then come back to the same zone. Once your vehicle has been parked in a zone, it is 2 hours from that initial point, not 2 hours total in the course of a day. If you are in the uptown area, leave and come back, make sure you park in a different zone or at a meter. There are 5-hour meters in the Uptown Parking Court (behind Northwest Hwy); on Ridge Terrace at Summit; on the north side of Summit from Euclid to Washington; in the Central (library) Lot; on Main St at Prairie, and; on Summit north of Touhy.
Permit parking is available for longer periods of time in eight lots in the Uptown area. Information on permit parking is available at the Cashier's Desk at City Hall, 318-6015.

Does the police department watch my house while I'm away on vacation?

When you go away on vacation, the police department will do a "vacation watch" on your residence.  An extra patrol will be made around your residence by the officer in that area.  This service does not include picking up mail or packages, and can only be used up to 30 days and not for vacant/empty homes.  It is simply an added precaution to prevent your home from being burglarized or damaged while you are away.  Call the police department, 318-5252, and have all the necessary information available or print out our vacation watch form and fax or mail it.  We will need to know the dates you will be gone, if you have automatic timers on your lights, emergency contact information (local), and the license plates of any vehicle that will be left at your residence in your absence.  We also have light timers available (up to two per household) at no charge at the police department.
